Christianity was seen as Jewish -- household codes were not the primary cultural threat

Have We Misunderstood "Wives Submit"? Women in Ministry part 9 01:53:05 – 01:55:10

Mike adds another historical argument against the cultural-defense theory.

Romans thought Christianity was Judaism; Jews already had known household codes that fit Roman culture. The real threat was idolatry rejection. Keener acknowledges that converting wives away from husbands' religions was seen as subversive (citing Plutarch), but the church evangelized women with non-Christian husbands anyway (see 1 Peter 3). Paul seems okay with persecution from accurate understanding of Christian teaching.
