Multiple problems with reading Ephesians 5 as cultural defense

Have We Misunderstood "Wives Submit"? Women in Ministry part 9 01:58:47 – 02:00:19

Mike lists remaining issues with the cultural-bowing interpretation.

Problems: (1) not written to Rome, (2) not written to non-believers, (3) no 'if they ask you about household codes, say this' language, (4) not like Paul's liberty language about meat/fasting, (5) even if written for apologetic purposes, it could still represent genuine Christian beliefs (as Josephus' defense did), (6) what Paul says to husbands (self-sacrificial love like Christ) isn't Roman culture at all. If this was a defense for Romans, why doesn't it fit Roman codes?
