Keener argues Paul explicitly defines submission as merely 'respect' in Ephesians 5:33 (which says 'let the wife see that she respects her husband'). Mike responds: if submission only meant respect, why did Paul write 'wives submit to your own husbands' and 'as the church submits to Christ'? Respect and submission are connected but one doesn't become the new definition of the other. You don't merely 'respect' Jesus without submitting to and obeying Him.
