Moses has a much stronger, higher role with more direct communication from God. Miriam is rebuked for usurping Moses's authority. She is a prophetess, but her leadership is not equivalent to Moses's. Belleville's claim that Israel would not travel without Miriam 'at the helm' is bad Bible study.
