How Paul is NOT different from his culture: submit meant authority imbalance to everyone
Mike identifies where Paul aligns with cultural understanding.
Paul says 'wives submit' -- nobody in the first century was confused about what that meant. It implied an imbalanced authority relationship. A hermeneutical principle: if the original audience all knew exactly what something meant, and we claim it means something totally different, we're probably wrong. It's different from an unclear passage where the audience might not have known the meaning.
