Old Testament law assigns different penalties to different sins, which itself demonstrates that God does not treat all sin the same.

Mike begins his Old Testament survey by pointing to the differentiated penal codes in the Mosaic law.

The 'eye for an eye' passage (Exodus 21:22) establishes proportional justice, not revenge, and further proves that sins are not equal in God's legal framework.

Mike unpacks the lex talionis principle, which is commonly misquoted as a license for personal revenge.

Taking the Lord's name in vain: biblical command is broad and applies beyond formal oaths to casual, empty use of God's name.

Q1 from Tanya in South Africa: is it wrong to watch movies that use phrases like "Oh my God" or "JC" even if the viewer is not personally using God's name in vain?

"Water under the earth" (Psalm 136:6, Exodus 20:4) = the ocean. Exodus 20:4 prohibits idols of things in heaven, on earth, or in the water under the earth — if this isn't the ocean, then the idol prohibition doesn't cover fish/sea creatures. Psalm 24:2: "founded upon the seas, established upon the rivers" — earth (dry land) is simply above water level.

Mike shifts to a loose upload schedule — fewer but higher-quality videos. He's been rushing 2-3 videos/week to satisfy the YouTube algorithm, sometimes at the cost of thorough preparation. New approach: study topics fully, publish when ready. Current deep study: marriage, divorce, and remarriage — a topic where getting it wrong harms real lives.
